Denver — Nick Charles, Australian singer songwriter and guitar virtuoso is performing in Denver at Swallow Hill’s Tuft Theatre on Saturday, September 9 at 8 p.m. as part of his 2006 US tour. Nick has been a featured artist for the last three years at the prestigious Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, Kansas, and many other concerts and workshops throughout the country including the Black Rose Acoustic Society in Colorado Springs who praise him as “a world class stylist and composer.” This is sure to be a treat for lovers of acoustic roots guitar music and song. In his native land Nick has been a multiple award winner with over twenty-five years performing and touring. He has won The Australian Song Competition, “Roots Album” and “Song of the Year” and taken his performance across Australia, the US and the UK. Australian Guitar magazine hails Nick as an “amazing talent” and the Melbourne Age calls him “Australia’s virtuoso of acoustic Blues and Roots.”

This year in his native state of Victoria, Nick is “The Blues Artist of The Year” and “Solo Performer of The Year.” He has toured with and opened for a who’s who of the music world such as BB King, John Hammond, Guy Clarke, Junior Wells, Robin Ford, Dan Crary and countless more. His latest album New Kind of Feeling is due for release this fall and his concert will feature songs from the new CD along with songs from his previous critically acclaimed albums My Place, Grace Notes and Travelling Fingerpicker -praised by Rhythms magazine for its “dazzling musicianship.” His influences range from the blues of Big Bill Broonzy and Blind Blake to the countrified picking of Doc Watson and Merle Travis. The melodic influences span a hundred years or more and there are glimpses of the ragtime era and all manner of great composers from Duke Ellington to Lennon and McCartney. He has recently signed with the prestigious Solid Air Records, the home of the world’s finest guitarists and a winner at last years Grammy awards.

Take this opportunity to see and hear a rare musical talent, dazzling fingerpicking and bluesy songwriting at Swallow Hill on Saturday, September 9. “You don’t quite realize just what a fine player Nick Charles is until you see him close up. The fingers literally fly across the frets as if more than two and a half decades of performing, recording and touring have honed his skills to perfection.” - Rhythms magazine.
