Denver - The Hot Strings and special guests
will host a benefit concert at Swallow Hill Music Association on June 29
at 8 p.m. in an effort to raise funds for the Sons & Brothers family and
Frank Wolking. A short time after the Mid-Winter Bluegrass Festival, Frank
Wolking, father and leader of bluegrass band, Sons & Brothers, began losing
control of his right hand. Fearing a stroke, Frank's doctors ran a series of
tests. Unfortunately, the results led to a more grim diagnosis: Frank has cancer
of the esophagus, which has spread to his brain.
Many people have heard
Sons & Brothers perform and know Frank and his sons for their powerful
harmonies, instrumental prowess, and unique "WestGrass" approach to melding
bluegrass and western music. Sons & Brothers have not only won many fans in
Colorado, but also at shows across the country, and even overseas in Scotland
and England. Frank is now fighting for his life, undergoing aggressive
chemotherapy and radiation treatment in an all-out battle against the spreading
cancer. Through the grace of God and his own strength and stubbornness, Frank is
still, for the time being, performing with his sons.
Frank's brother, Ed Wolking, has established a bank account to receive
donations that will help defray the medical bills that are sure to be hefty.
Swallow Hill is participating in the drive and you can call them to make a
donation at at (303) 777-1003. Swallow Hill is also accepting donations online
via their donation form, located at
www.swallowhillmusic.org, under
"Support," "Donate Online."
Come and show your support for good people and good music at the benefit
hosted by The Hot Strings, held in Daniels Hall at Swallow Hill Music
Association. All proceeds from this concert will be sent to Frank Wolking and
Sons & Brothers to help fight Frank's battle with cancer. It's all about
helping each other through music. Swallow Hill is located at 71 East Yale Avenue
in Denver and the benefit will take place at 8 p.m. on June 29.
Don't miss these rising stars,
who will appear at Swallow Hill on Saturday, June 16 at 8 p.m.
