Denver - Swallow Hill is proud to be awarded a $20,000 grant from The Denver Foundation.

The Denver Foundation is a community foundation dedicated to improving life in Metro Denver through philanthropy, community and leadership. Community foundations are endowments—permanent pools of money distributed by donors to benefit a specific geographic area. The Foundation awarded $37 million to nonprofit organizations in 2006 alone.

The grant will be used to support general operations central to Swallow Hill's mission. Helping people make and enjoy music since 1979, Swallow Hill Music Association is one of the largest institutions of its kind in the United States as a source for folk, roots and acoustic music. With more than 2,100 members, Swallow Hill provides a place to celebrate music that is rarely heard elsewhere in the Rocky Mountain Region. Three concert venues house more than 200 performances a year, featuring some of the world's great artists as well as up-and-coming new talent. The Julie Davis Music School at Swallow Hill provides a valuable and affordable extra-curricular educational resource to the community with more than 60 music instructors involved in more than 240 adult classes and 70 children's classes annually.

Swallow Hill's programs help build a diverse community by providing a comprehensive and creative approach to presenting, teaching, and preserving folk and acoustic music and dance. There are many people in the community who benefit from these programs, with more than 44,000 people participating in 2006 alone. Our programs also supplement arts education for grade school children. Small children, teenagers, and adults who come through our doors find growth in their personal development as well as their artistic expression as they learn about diverse folk and acoustic music forms and the unique cultural heritages associated with them.
