Denver - Swallow Hill is pleased to present the Savoy-Doucet Cajun Band on Friday, July 13 at 8 p.m.

Comprised of three musicians who can play numerous instruments and sometimes trade instruments during stage performances, Marc and Ann Savoy and Michael Doucet, they have been performing and recording together since 1977. During that time, they have recorded together five albums on the Arhoolie label, and have traveled all over the world appearing in many prestigious venues, such as the Newport Folk Festival, the Berlin Jazz Festival, the Festival of American Fiddle Tunes at the Smithsonian Institution, the National Geographic Concert Series, and the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, England. Each member of the band has received myriad accolades: Marc Savoy with the honorable National Heritage Fellowship Award (1982), Michael Doucet with a Grammy award (for work with his band, Beausoleil, in 1998), and Ann with the Botkin Book Award for her definitive book on the history of Cajun music, Cajun Music, A Reflection of a People. Ann also recorded three of the twelve tracks for the major motion picture, Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood, and she appears in the film as a musician with her son, Joel. At the 49th annual Grammy Awards, she was nominated for her collaboration with ten-time Grammy winner Linda Ronstadt in the Best Traditional Folk Album category for Adieu False Heart.

The Savoy-Doucet Cajun Band brings the raw energy of the dancehalls of southwest Louisiana to the stage, peppered with humorous and informative anecdotes about life on the Louisiana prairies. Their repertoire is chosen carefully, popular dancehall tunes interspersed with soulful ballads, fiddle or vocal duets, or blues. These songs showcase the spectrum of Cajun life from sorrow and lost love to nonsense and the joy of dance.
